Who else loves live edge tables? Since we have always admired the beauty of a rustic cut table, we chased our dream and teamed up with Arhaus to create a Live Edge Coffee Table.
Here is how!
To create this live edge coffee table we began the process with Arhaus by deciding on how we wanted to customize our piece.
We chose where we wanted to place the table, the sizing, and which wood species we preferred. The information was then relayed to Amish woodworkers, who selected a unique slab that fit our criteria.
These fourth-generation Amish woodworkers create handcrafted, rustic slabs of wood from trees that have fallen naturally or cut down for development—trees that otherwise would have been chopped for firewood or chipped for mulch.
The species of wood that we chose is ambrosia maple. There are 8 different species to choose from: Cherry, Mahogany, Maple, Sycamore, Ambrosia Maple, Elm and Walnut.
We learned that the artisans leave the slabs in the sun for two years to dry out, followed by five months in the kiln to ensure strength and durability. Two years later these slabs are ready to be made into furniture.
Once the slab for our coffee table was selected, the piece was finished and set atop of the base of our choice. This process took 6-8 weeks.
Our coffee table was created out of a slab of wood which was then divided into two pieces to create two coffee tables. We are giving away the sister live edge coffee table on Instagram soon. The giveaway will be launched on 12/11/2018 by @timeouthomes and @arhaus and other participating accounts. Make sure to participate. You might be the lucky owner of a new live edge coffee table soon. Stay tuned!
This coffee table is one of a kind, and is ready to be enjoyed in our home.
